[ACCESSIBILITY]
Accessibility
The castelloestense.it site has been constructed in accordance with the principles of accessibility for the differently abled, following in particular the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
Page layout based on CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)
The page layout has been defined using style sheets, avoiding the use of tables. This allows the content to be separated from the presentation so that different presentations are possible according to the different types of use. Care has been taken to make sure that the contents are still useable in browsers that do not support CSS.
Choice of presentation mode
The view menu (A on a black background) allows the user to select the mode in which the contents of the pages are shown: in normal characters or in "accessible mode".
The latter is a mode that incorporates high contrast between the text and the background, which maintains the text size settings of the user's browser.
access keys (shortcut keys)
These allow a specific link to be activated by pressing a given sequence of keys. In the Windows environment, the sequence is Alt + Access Key and then Return; in the Macintosh environment the sequence is Ctrl + Access Key.
The following Access Keys work on all pages:
- Access Key H: Home
- Access Key A: Accessible view
- Access Key S: Standard view
- Access Key C: Main contents
- Access Key I: Site map
conformity with the standards
The pages on the site are written in XHTML 1.0 transitional.
We have tried to reach the AA accessibility level (priority 2) of the WCAG 1.0 on the majority of the pages.
links
Most of the links consist of hyperlinks and are visible as being underlined.
Many links have a "title" attribute that provides a full description
pictures
all the pictures have an Alt attribute that provides a brief description of their contents; purely descriptive pictures have an empty Alt attribute
