The exhibition "Il Trionfo di Bacco" is dedicated to some of the most prestigious works that left the Castle in 1598 - when Cesare d'Este had to abandon the city - and which were dispersed to the most important European museums. Many of the canvases on show in Ferrara's Castello Estense are expected to make a romantic return to the eight rooms that originally housed them and which, after important restoration work, are now open to the public on occasion of the exhibition. The exhibition catalogue documents in the best way the close collaboration, fully in tune with the dictates of the European programmes concerning cultural exchanges, between the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister of Dresden and the Provincia di Ferrara. The event takes place under the expert scientific guidance of Gregor J.M.Weber.

The exhibition, housed in the Imbarcadero rooms, is dedicated to the urban archaeology that is deeply interwoven with the story of the building of Castello Estense. A new chapter in the story of its construction which offers the results of the archaeological excavations carried out in the castle area between 1989 and 1991. Analysis of the finds and of the data produced by the excavation has allowed the reconstruction of a piece of history hitherto unexplored: the demolition of the Borgonuovo area with its houses and parish church in order to make way for the building of Castello Estense.

The exhibition "Uno Sguardo sul Passato" was held in the rooms of the Appartamento dello Specchio (Mirror Apartment) in the Castello Estense of Ferrara. The central idea around which the exhibition was organized was the reconstruction of the historical events stages linked to the presence of man in this area, from the first settlements in the Neolithic Era up to the height of the Renaissance, setting in sequence the extraordinary flourishing of Spina at the mouth of the Po between the 6th and 3rd centuries B.C, the period of Romanization, the Byzantine facies and the grand era of the Este family.
